Reviews:

4.0     Ihcahieh

“This movie’s strength is in its plot and character development, as well as in the irony of events. The problem with that is people could get all those in soap operas. For free.” (Read full review)

3.5      Jocelyn Valle (PEP)

“But even when they’re not creating heat between the sheets, Dennis Trillo, Lovi Poe, Jake Cuenca and Carla Abellana exhibit chemistry that make this sexy drama sizzle.” (Read full review)

3.5     Pink Fox Patrol

“I think they could have edited the movie more to make it tighter, maybe 15 minutes less so that the denouement would be more dramatic.  Two hours was too long.  Otherwise, I enjoyed it because after watching Christopher de Leon and Vilma Santos fight so much in many ‘adult’ movies of my youth – it’s refreshing to discover that some of today’s actors and actresses are willing to take over their thrones.  And it helps that they’re much much yummier!” (Read full review)

3.0     Philbert Dy (Click the City)

“In its best moments, the film shares a devastatingly toxic picture of marriage, one where forgiveness is mere lip service, and betrayal can only be answered by more betrayal. But the film lets a measure of romance enter the picture, scraping away at the darkness with ill-fitting pop songs and proclamations of love, then playing things out as predictably as possible.” (Read full review)

2.5      Ria Limjap (Spot.ph)

“While the screenplay of My Neighbor’s Wife is full of quotable lines (Dimples Romana in a supporting role has some of the juiciest), it unfortunately looks and feels like a tedious two hour long TV soap. The movie is a lot fun—sampalan, sumbatan, and yes, sabunutan—but lingers too much on the iyakan.” (Read full review)

2.5      Reel Advice

“At times, My Neighbor’s Wife is a moving film – it is able to convey the hurts and the pains each character is going through… What ruins the film though is the revenge/reversal arc in the second half.” (Read full review)

2.0      Rito Asilo (Philippine Daily Inquirer)

“Ambitious but ultimately unsatisfying, Lana’s movie bites off more than it can chew. It employs a good number of ‘gotcha’ moments that rely heavily – and implausibly – on chance and coincidences.” (Read full review)

2.0      Regnard Raquedan (Screen Sucked)

“The movie is too long for its own good, as I felt that the middle part wasn’t able to keep the tension going. It also didn’t help that I didn’t feel rooting for anyone, as each of the characters had major flaws and then actors had some forgettable performances.” (Read full review)

2.0      Carl Papa (Whatever, Carl)

“The story was OK, however it got bogged up with details that I think that the movie could have survived without.  I loved how authentic the first post affair sequences.  It felt real.  And then things swerved to becoming more generic.  And that’s where the movie lost me.” (Read full review)

2.0      Nicol Latayan (Back to the Frying Pan)

“The film, though very predictable, has some good moments in it. There are scenes that highly explained the reason why the characters act such way, but it was overpowered by the contrived attempt of the director to dig deeper than what the film actually can carry.” (Read full review)

2.0      Bobet Bagundang (Denouements)

“In the end, it feels like a ride of some sort, you remember going for it earlier but you had a memory lapse, reaching the end credits without knowing how exactly.” (Read full review)

1.5      Cathy Peña (Make Me Blush)

“With a narrative that feels like homage to the long-winded melodramas of the 80’s and the early 90’s, My Neighbor’s Wife is a picture of moral defeatism. These are despicable individuals with absolutely no hint of character redemption.” (Read full review)

Capsules:

3.0      Json Javier (Cinephiles)

“Good: Carla and Lovi are on a winning streak. Some deliciously witty lines as well. Bad: Editing and dubbing. Overlong with several continuity errors. Ugly: Jake’s return to ham acting. Overall, I expected a B-movie and got a pretty decent B-movie. Worst performance of the year. Grabe di ko alam ano gusto nya gawin. Parang gusto nya understated performance kaso nasobrahan sa effort kaya mukhang OA pa din. I was groaning loudly dun sa first breakdown scene niya. And yes, that butt exposure was completely inappropriate and proved that Metathione doesn’t work on butt cracks.”

2.0      Jerome David Zamora (Cinephiles)

“Sori pero nageexpect ako ng Korean feel sa wife swapping na concept na ito, pero nagfail. Sayang. Saving grace si Dimples, para siyang batang Cherry Pie in some of her movies… dakilang best friend.”
